Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary has written to the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Change, and Environment to request that the Commission for Regulation Utilities (CRU) come before the Committee to discuss their approach to the project in Killala, County Mayo which has had ongoing delays.
Deputy Calleary had raised the topic at a dedicated debate in the Dáil convened at the request of the Deputy.
“The project as it stands cannot progress with the current rate, which is currently on offer from the CRU. It would completely undermine the project.
“It is imperative this plant progresses. It has the potential to bring up to 130 jobs to County Mayo and will contribute significantly to our yearly renewable energy targets. In addition, 300 jobs would be created during the construction phase.
“There has been serious investment in the project and site to date. The site is already home to a grid connection and we cannot roll back the progress done on location.
“The CRU must come before the Committee to engage with us to ensure the project progresses,” concluded Deputy Calleary.
