Fianna Fáil Senator for Meath, Thomas Byrne is calling on all sports clubs in Co. Meath who are thinking of engaging in capital projects, to apply for funding from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport under the 2012 Sports Capital Grants. The Government has announced funding of €30 million for capital projects in 2012.
‘While this is a smaller allocation than awarded by previous Fianna Fáil governments, it is a welcome source of funding for sports clubs and will add value to our communities’ said Senator Byrne.
The deadline for receipt of online applications (and applications as Gaeilge) is 5pm on Friday 1st June 2012 while the deadline for paper applications is 5pm on Friday 11th June 2012. Clubs must submit applications prior to these dates otherwise their applications will be void.
‘This scheme aims to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country by prioritising the needs of disadvantaged areas, encouraging the provision of multipurpose facilities and assisting community and voluntary organisations to upgrade their own facilities’ added Senator Byrne.
‘I am willing to sit down with any sports club and give them any assistance they need in applying for this scheme. Please get in touch with me,’ concluded Senator Byrne.
