Fianna Fáil Senator, Thomas Byrne has welcomed the decision of workers and management at Lagan Brick, Kingscourt to accept proposals aimed at bringing the industrial dispute at the plant.
‘Many Meath families are being greatly affected by this issue and I am delighted to see that progress is being made at ensuring an equitable and fair resolution to this period of industrial action’
‘The proposals include the appointment of an independent assessor to examine the company’s trading position and an assessment of the viability of continuing manufacturing. In addition, the workers have agreed to allow stock remaining on site to be released with a view to this revenue being used to cover any severance or redundancy payments’ said Senator Byrne
‘This is a positive development and something which serves the interests of both workers and management’ added. Senator Byrne.
‘However, more needs to be done by the Department of Enterprise and Jobs to ensure that alternative employment and / or training opportunities are made available to the workers. This is an absolute necessity’ concluded Senator Byrne.
