Fianna Fáil Senator Thomas Byrne has expressed his outrage at the refusal of the Minister for Transport to come before the Seanad to answer questions on the delayed N2 Slane bypass.
This week, Senator Byrne sought to raise the stalled project as part of a special debate in the Seanad but was informed that Minister Leo Varadkar refused to answer questions on this.
Senator Byrne commented: “Minister Varadkar has all of a sudden decided to refer the matter of the N2/Slane bypass to the National Roads Authority (NRA). However, he has previously appeared before the Seanad to answer questions on this.
“The people of Slane need an urgent update on plans for the bypass and it appears that he is passing the buck.
“We need to have an open debate about the bypass and I will continue to raise this issue in the Seanad despite the Minister’s behaviour,” Senator Byrne concluded.
