Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education and Skills Thomas Byrne TD has wished all Leaving and Junior Certificate students beginning their exams today the best of luck.

More than 59,000 candidates have registered to sit the Leaving Certificate exams, while a further 62,000 are expected to sit the Junior Certificate.

Deputy Byrne said, “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work and preparation through the years for students. They now have the opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned and showcase their talent from areas like English and History to Science and languages.

“I want to wish all students they very best of luck this week. For Junior Cert students this is a half-way point in the senior cycle for them while for Leaving Cert students they will shortly embark on a whole new chapter in their lives.

“It is completely natural for students to be nervous or even anxious about the exams but it’s important to talk to friends, family and teachers about any concerns that they have. It’s also important for students to stay calm, eat properly over the exam period and get proper sleep; and for parents to be supportive of students in the coming weeks,” said Deputy Byrne.
