Senator Thomas Byrne is encouraging all members of the public to attend this Saturday’s Rally in support of Our Lady’s Hospital Navan.
“Fianna Fáil supported the last major rally so it is only natural that we continue to give the Hospital our full support.
“It is crucial that the people of Meath send a clear message to this Government: Honour your promises and respect your voters,” said Byrne. “People will not accept broken promises. Many of the local hospital cuts are happening as a direct result of Minister James Reilly’s mishandling of his health budget this year. People are right to demand that Minister Reilly complies with promises he made to the people of Meath over two years ago.
Senator Byrne also questioned the value and sincerity of Fine Gael-organised meetings with Oireachtas members on this issue. “The approach of the Fine Gael party has been not to take this process seriously. I received my invitation to the meeting this week with Minister James Reilly from Deputy Regina Doherty after the meeting had actually started. I see no point in attending these meetings at this time. In future, I will hold Minister Reilly accountable in the Seanad directly myself and I won’t engage in petty games with Fine Gael TDs.”
