Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education, Thomas Byrne TD, has extended his congratulations to the over 64,000 students who are getting Junior Cert results today.
Deputy Byrne commented, “Today is a significant day for the students who are receiving their Junior Cert results and I wish to congratulate them on their hard work.
“The Junior Cert is regularly depicted as the poorer relation to the Leaving Certificate when it is in fact the Junior Cert that provides the foundation for future subject choice and prepares students in taking state examinations.
“Rising demographics mean that the numbers sitting the exam have risen by almost 3% compared to last year. This is something the Department of Education will need to take into account in determining future provisions for correcting and marking exams.
“The recent decision to give special status to history in the Junior Cycle is very welcome but we now need to see the Minister explain what special status is, so school stakeholders and students can prepare.
“I would like to congratulate students again, if anyone is disappointed with their results they should speak to someone and look for support from their parents and teachers”, he concluded.
