Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education and Skills Thomas Byrne TD has extended his congratulations to the 58,500 students who received their Leaving Cert results today.
Deputy Byrne said, “Today is a momentous day for the 58,500 students that received their Leaving Cert results and I wish to congratulate each and every one of them on two years of hard work. To complete the Leaving Cert is a great achievement. This is the start of an exciting new chapter in their lives.
“While there will be many who are delighted with their grades, there will also be some who will be disappointed. To those people, it’s important not to panic as there are so many options these days to allow them to pursue their chosen career path.
“This is the first year that the new grading system is in place for the Leaving Cert. The outcome of these changes seems to be positive, but there may be some confusion as students weigh up their options in the days ahead. It’s important to note that there are supports available to students who need advice on their results and the next stage in the CAO process.
“Students who need advice can contact The Examination Helpline 2017. The 1800 265 165 Freephone helpline is open from 10 am on results day and will remain open until August 23rd. This helpline can also be used by parents who may be looking for advice on how the new marking system works.
“Today is a day for both celebration and reflection and I wish to again reiterate my congratulations,” concluded Deputy Byrne.
