Local Fianna Fáil Senator Thomas Byrne has condemned the shooting dead of a man in broad daylight outside the Huntsman Pub in Co Meath this afternoon.
Senator Byrne commented, “This attack happened in the middle of the afternoon in full view of passers-by. It is yet another terrible example of just how brazen these criminal thugs have become and just how vulnerable our local communities feel at this time.
“What more does the Government need to realise that this is not the time to dismantle community policing, shut down local garda stations and completely undermine our local gardaí? People are genuinely fearful about the alarming increase in dissident activity, gang crime, violent crime and burglaries in Co Meath and across this region. The gardaí here are under more pressure than ever before, and they need to be supported in keeping our streets safe.
“I want to commend the local gardaí for their swift response to this awful incident. I understand a number of arrests have already been made and a full scale investigation is underway. The local gardaí must be given every support possible to ensure that these criminals are brought to justice.”
