Meath East Senator Thomas Byrne has commended the response of members of the gardaí in the North East region to the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
Senator Byrne commented, “I want to commend the gardaí for their swift and professional response to this terrible tragedy. Members of the force right across the North East region, including those who worked with Garda Donohoe and with members of his family who are also gardaí, have gone far beyond the call of duty to progress this investigation. This is a mark of the true professionalism and patriotism that An Garda Síochána stands for.
“Communities right across the country are shocked and disgusted by the brutal murder of a man who was gunned down while trying to protect others. Those who put themselves on the line to keep our communities safe must be given every support possible. This weekend has been dreadful reminder of the risks that gardaí take every day in protecting all of us.
“This is a devastating time for Garda Donohoe’s family and friends and for An Garda Síochána. My thoughts and prayers are with them as the nation struggles to come to terms with what has happened.”
