Fianna Fáil Jobs and Enterprise Spokesman Willie O’Dea has called on the Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton and the IDA to scout locations in Dublin 15 for Twitter’s new Ireland operation.
Welcoming the announcement that Twitter is to locate in Ireland Deputy O’Dea said: “This is a significant win for Ireland and one Fianna Fáil vigorously pursued in government last year. I am delighted that all of the efforts on behalf of IDA and successive Ministers have now paid off.
“While the initial Twitter footprint in Ireland is likely to be small initially there is no question of the potential for significant job growth in the years ahead as has been the case with Google and other internet giants who have located in Ireland.
“Ireland is now home to the offices and the European bases of the world’s leading web companies. This is a great achievement for Ireland and will yield results for the country for years to come.
“I am calling on the Minister and officials in the IDA to now look to Dublin 15 for a location for Twitter’s new operation which it could recommend to the company. Dublin 15 in west Dublin is already home to companies such as eBay and PayPal in Blanchardstown. Twitter would be an outstanding addition and west Dublin is extremely well served by Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown. Indeed the IDA should look to its own college business & technology park which was developed in conjunction with the Blanchardstown IT as a possible location for Twitter.”
