Fianna Fáil TD for Wexford James Browne has criticised the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross for his refusal to publish a report into the legislative status of Rosslare Europort.
The report was commissioned in 2013 by the then Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar.
Deputy Browne said, “This report was commissioned with the aim of identifying ways to harness the true potential of Irish ports. Despite numerous requests to publish the report by economic consultants Indecon, the Minister has to date refused to reveal the contents of the report.
“These refusals usually cite the need for advice to be obtained from the Office of the Attorney General. In a recent answer to a parliamentary question the Minister described the report as confidential for the first time. This indicates that he has no intention of ever publishing its contents.
“Rosslare Europort is critical for the future of the Irish economy post-Brexit. Wexford is uniquely placed to take advantage of Brexit and bolster our country’s global trade links. However this can only occur if the Government actively supports Rosslare Europort in the years ahead,” concluded Deputy Browne.
