Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry, John Brassil has said that the decision of the HSE to approve Respreeza under the Compassionate Access Programme for the 19 patients currently taking it is a welcome relief and a common sense result.

Deputy Brassil was commenting after being informed by the Alpha-1 Foundation that the HSE has confirmed that those currently taking the drug will have access to it on a long term basis.

“This is fantastic news for the 19 people and their families. They have fought long and hard to reach this point and it is a major relief to them.

“The fight to secure access to Respreeza for other suitable candidates must now continue. This was step one, a vital step, but it is part of a long term requirement to give people the drugs they need to improve their quality of life,” concluded Brassil.
