Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has paid tribute to Ruth Morrissey in the Seanad today following her passing last weekend.

She commented, “Last Sunday, Ireland and in particular Ireland’s women lost a hero, a brave and inspirational woman who showed great commitment and perseverance to a public fight to get a better deal for women.

“I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Ruth Morrissey’s husband Paul and daughter Libby.

“Ruth, along with Vicky Phelan, Emma nic Mhathuna, Lorraine Walsh and Stephen Teap shone a light on incompetency’s within the health services and fought for truth and justice.

“She sought to highlight diagnostic failings in Ireland’s cervical check screening programme so that other women would not have to go through what she went through.

“The government need to outline the timeline on the implementation of the Scally and McGrath reports, and detail the commencement date for the statutory tribunal based on the recommendations.

“Whilst the cervical cancer screening has recommenced, that is only in a limited way, and we need full restoration as soon as possible in honour of Ruth’s legacy,” concluded Senator O’Loughlin.
