Latest shooting highlights the level of gun violence in Dublin – O’Callaghan

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice and Equality, Jim O’Callaghan, has said that recent gun violence in Ireland’s capital reveals how brazen those involved have become.

Deputy O’Callaghan was commenting following the latest shooting in Coolock, north Dublin. The victim who was shot is understood to be in his 30s and was shot several times at Cromcastle Drive, a quiet suburban road in Coolock.

“The prevalence of gun related violence has continued to intensify, and it is essential that all possible resources are provided to protect the public. It is apparent that these shootings will continue unless there is adequate intervention. Condemnation is not enough.

“The man who was shot was lucky to survive this gun attack. As a society we must hold to the principle that any form of gun violence will not be tolerated. We must make sure that gardaí have the resources necessary to prevent such further attacks in the future.

“I would appeal for anyone with information to contact the Gardaí at Santry Garda station and come forward to prevent a further attack like this,” concluded Deputy O’Callaghan.
