Heney to host public meeting on Caring for Dementia

Dublin Bay North candidate Cllr Deirdre Heney will host a public meeting on Caring for Dementia on 25 November in Grange Woodbine Football Club, Raheny Road, Raheny at 8pm.

Cllr Heney explained: “It’s a meeting for Carers about Carers – and what society can do to help make life a little less painful for these carers.

“Over the last three years or so, I’ve met many people caring for loved ones with dementia at home and these carers seem to me to be very isolated in their own homes. They are in silent pain – which could in many cases, have a detrimental impact on the carers’ own heath,” she warned.

“I feel society needs to be made aware of the needs of this particular group of carers and acknowledge them. Communities can help though initiatives such as the Forget Me Nots Choir in Baldoyle.

“I want to do four things  –  (1) Listen to these carers; (2) acknowledge them;  (3) make society aware of their particular needs and (4) take steps in the community such as establishing a Forget Me nots Choir in Raheny (and every other town in Ireland),” added Cllr Heney.

“I believe that these carers are silently crying out for help.”
