Local Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien TD has welcomed the allocation of €18,000 for a wetland development at Turvey Nature Park under the Local Authority Biodiversity Grant Scheme.

The Local Authority Biodiversity Grant Scheme is operated by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The scheme offers funding to assist local authority biodiversity officers and heritage officers in local authorities without a biodiversity officer with the implementation of projects.

Commenting Minister O’Brien said, “Turvey Nature Reserve is a favourite wildlife hotspot in North County Dublin. The park has so much to offer, from fantastic walking and cycling opportunities to the picturesque sights over the Rogerstown Estuary.

“This funding allocation will further enhance that and by restoring the natural hydrology of the area it will also help to climateproof the estuary. Fingal County Council has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to Turvey Nature Reserve so they are to be commended for continuing to progress their plans,” concluded Minister O’Brien.
