Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has wished Cllr. Mary Fitzpatrick well at the Liberals and Democrats Local and Regional LeaDeR Awards, organised by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.

Cllr. Fitzpatrick, the party’s group leader on Dublin City Council, has been short-listed as a finalist in the Local Leader of the Year award. The awards take place in Brussels tomorrow, Wednesday December 18th.

Cllr. Fitzpatrick said: “I am delighted to be short-listed for this award. There is huge work underway in Dublin to ensure Fianna Fáil reconnects with communities and I have seen firsthand how people are working in their own areas to improve the community in which they live.”

Party Leader Micheál Martin commented, “I want to congratulate Mary on being short-listed for this award. She is working extremely hard on the ground in Dublin to ensure the concerns being expressed by the public are being heard and addressed by the party. Mary has also been a very strong voice on Dublin City Council on the impact this government’s budget decision are having on people’s lives in Dublin and on the economy in the capital.”

During her visit to Brussels Cllr. Fitzpatrick will also attend a seminar on Europe 2020 and the growth strategy for the next decade. She said: “I look forward to attending the event to see how Europe’s growth strategy can positively impact on Dublin and I will be seeking to bring good ideas and information that can be put to practical use to improve our capital city.”
