Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Defence, Jack Chambers TD has said that the clear absence of Government policy on the pay and conditions of Defence Forces personnel is forcing their loved ones to join the campaign for appropriate pay and conditions for their work.
The Deputy was commenting ahead of tomorrow’s Parade for Respect and Loyalty march which is due to take place at Dáil Éireann.
Deputy Chambers commented, “The weakened morale regarding poor pay and conditions within the Defence Forces cannot much more. Things have come to the point where the families and loved ones of Defence Forces personnel have had to mobilise in order to draw attention to their pay and conditions. But where is Minister Kehoe?
“His colleague Minister Simon Coveney spoke yesterday of ‘”the partnership between the Defence Forces and the State”. The truth is that this bond has been heavily eroded under this Government and for many only disregard remains.
“Not just breaches of the working time directive or denial of appropriate pay and conditions but blatant disrespect to the unrelenting loyalty shown by members of the Defence Forces over the past 96 years.
“Fianna Fáil fully supports the repeated calls for Government to deliver appropriate pay and conditions to those that are employed by the Irish Defence Forces for their military operations and the level of support they provide to the public,” he concluded.
