Fianna Fáil Leader and Cork South-Central TD Micheál Martin has said today’s jobs announcement from Apple is extremely important for Cork and for the country.
Apple is to add 1,000 jobs to its operation in Hollyhill, taking its staff number to 6,000 in 2017.
Deputy Martin said: “This is a very significant announcement, not just for Cork but for Ireland. It sends a strong message that Ireland remains a key player for foreign direct investment. Cork is Apple’s European HQ and I believe by increasing their employment numbers to 6,000 Apple is making a strong statement about Cork’s position in the company’s long-term future.
“Apple has grown over many years in Cork and adds to the local and national economy. The impact of Apple is very significant and helps secure Ireland’s position as a major player when it comes to attracting new investments into the country. Apple management and staff in Cork are to be congratulated for their work in helping to deliver this important expansion.”
