Fianna Fáil Seanad Group Leader, Senator Catherine Ardagh has said this afternoon’s power outage will set back businesses, particularly restaurants that are heavily dependent on lunchtime trade.

The Dublin based Senator has called for urgent answers as to how it happened and how it has been allowed to last so long.

ESB have confirmed reports of a large fault in Dublin City Centre today and that an estimated 3,900 premises are affected.

Senator Ardagh said, “Businesses in the city centre are paying some of the highest rents and rates in the country. They are entitled to expect reliable electricity.

“I would like to see an explanation from ESB of how this has happened and what they are doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

She concluded, “With construction ongoing at sites around the city, all third party contractors making contact with underground electrical network need to be well warned about the impact an outage has on Dublin City Centre businesses.”
