Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth has called for HSE action as respite services in Cavan-Monaghan will see additional build up in waiting lists due to the closure at the Annalee View Respite Services in Cootehill. The service will remain closed indefinitely as an oil leak is repaired.

Deputy Smyth said “There are already significant delays for those waiting on respite services in my constituency. It has been confirmed to me that the Annalee View Respite Service has been shut and will remain so as significant repairs need to be carried out.

“While Cavan Monaghan Disability Services are actively seeking an alternative location the wider issue of respite services, or lack of, must remain a priority for the HSE and the Minister.

“The provision of respite services is vitally important for the individual, their families, siblings, or carers. One family has been on a waiting list since July 2016 but since then has not received one day of respite.  This is deeply unfair.  Many of the parents I am working with are full time carers for their children. They are not asking for much.

“As the alternative premises are sought the HSE must make this a priority to ensure waiting lists are reduced for the families in Cavan-Monaghan,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
