Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has welcomed the announcement that US pharmaceutical firm Allergan is to create 200 jobs in Co Mayo, with a major expansion of its facility in Westport.
Speaking after the launch in Westport today, Deputy Calleary said: “This is fantastic news not just for Westport and Co Mayo, but also for the entire Western region. Allergan is a leading multinational pharmaceutical firm, manufacturing a range of products and devices, including Botox.
“The company, which already employs 800 people in Westport, is to invest $350 million in a major expansion of the facility over the next 4 years. This will result in 200 new highly skilled jobs at a new Botox plant on the site in Westport.
“This announcement boosts Ireland’s reputation as a global hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and research. Allergan’s vote of confidence in Mayo and in its Irish base will help attract further investment from similar multinational firms into the future.
“Great credit is due to the management and staff at the Westport plant for their success to date, and to the state agencies involved in securing this investment,” said Deputy Calleary.
