Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Agriculture, Éamon Ó Cuív TD, has called on the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, to immediately inform applicants to the AEOS III Scheme whether their submissions were accepted or not.
Deputy Ó Cuív commented: “This scheme was promised for last April and many farmers are waiting anxiously to know whether they will be accepted into the scheme. Once again, the Minister has failed to live up to the promises that he has made and has let down farmers.
“I am also very disappointed that the Minister has once again refused my request to allow all eligible applicants to join this scheme. Just under 10,000 people have applied to join the scheme and the Minister, despite all the difficulties being faced by farmers at the moment, is not willing to accept more than 6,000 new participants.
“In view of the delay in commencing the scheme, there is now no reason for the Minister not to increase the number of places on the scheme to 10,000. Due to the delay in commencing the scheme there are no budgetary consequences this year in allowing it to be extended to cover all applicants. I urge the Minster to reconsider his decision and open up the scheme to all applicants.”
