Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation Willie O’Dea TD has questioned the significance of the fact that the Department of Jobs was entirely sidelined in the Government’s hyped jobs initiative.
He commented, “One of the glaring omissions from the jobs initiative is any funding for any area under the control of the Department of Enterprise, Jobs & Innovation. A leak from Minister Bruton to the Sunday Business Post on May 1st detailed that 18 proposals had been forwarded by him for inclusion in the Initiative. None of these appeared yesterday.”
“In spite of talking about a ‘joined-up’ initiative, the detail that is emerging suggests that the manufacturing and export sectors were explicitly excluded from the initiative and the Minister responsible for these areas had his suggestions ignored. Given this, Minister Bruton should explain what the status and role of his Department is.”
