Fianna Fáil Councillor for the Finglas Area David Costello has condemned the attack on local fire services last night.
It comes after members of Dublin Fire Brigade were attacked by a group of youths while they attend a call out in south Finglas. The call, which originally came in as a house fire, turned out to be tyres on fire and black smoke was blowing towards a house.
Fire fighters came under attack by a gang of youths aged between the ages of 10-15. It is reported that the gang threw a glass bottle which smashed beside the fire engine and then a stone which shattered the back window. One firefighter was sitting right beside the window when it happened.
Cllr Costello said, “Attacks like this on our frontline services are unacceptable and uncalled for. The members of Dublin Fire Brigade put themselves on the line for the people of our city on a daily basis and they do not deserve to be treated like this.
“Attacks like this affect the entire community This fire engine will have to be taken out of service for repair which could create delayed response times for the community.
“Action needs to be taken to ensure that the youths are dealt with and this situation never happens again.”
