Personal Details

Married to Marie with four children Ciáran, Sineád, Padraic and Cathal. Elected to Galway Co. Co. on my first attempt in 1999 and re-elected in 2004. My reason for standing for election was to give a Strong Voice to the Local Community with a Common Sense Approach. Now in those difficult times it is needed more than ever. I have held many positions within Fianna Fáil from Cumann Officer to Dail Ceantair Chairman and have represented the Electorate of the Ballinasloe Local Electoral Area over the last ten years in a wide range of issues. I am acutely aware of the many concerns that exist throughout this area and will continue to work with both individuals and community groups to improve the quality of life for all concerned

Priorities:

In this recessionary period the Government has to protect all sectors of society that are in the lower income areas and that includes Small Businesses and the low income sector of the Farming Community. This approach has to be reflected in all Government decisions.

Local Government
-Will push for less influence from Government Departments and more control and discretion at local Authority level in relation to prioritising County and Local roads for maintenance and improvements.
- Will seek a reduction in Bureaucratic duplication that is going on between Local Authorities and the Department in relation to water and Sewerage Schemes, which could allow for more cost effective services to be provided.

Health
- A Health Service with more localized Management and responsibility that puts the patient and Service user first at all times. Am totally opposed to the centralisation of the Medical Card Assessment as it will cause difficulties for many people.
- The Health Service has to move away from convenient decision making or the one size fits all syndrome....... Individuals dependent on the Health Services can have very specific needs and should be treated as such. Hospital Transport is a typical example as to how this should not be done.
