Thomas is married to Ann Hunt. They have three children, Sineád, Tomás and Daithi. Educated St Mary's Diocesan School and Trinity College (LLB). Solicitor and member of the Law Society of Ireland. Member of the Law Council of NUI Maynooth.

Senator Byrne was speaking at a well-attended meeting of farmers in Rathowen, county Westmeath. The meeting was organised by Fianna Fáil to discuss the party’s alternative proposals on EU CAP reform.
