Galway May 1950. - Married to Catherine Mannion, three sons, one daughter. - Educated at St. Jarlath's College, Tuam, St. Patrick's Teacher Training College, Drumcondra, Dublin, UCD (BA, HdipED) and UCG. - Full time public representative, former teacher. - Son of Michael F Kitt, Dáil Deputy 1948-51, 1957-75. - Brother of Tom Kitt, former Dáil Deputy for Dublin South and Minister of State, and former Deputy Áine Brady.

Kitt welcomes Govt climb-down on fireman entitlements

Galway East Deputy Michael Kitt has welcomed the Minister for Social Protection’s decision to address an anomaly in job seeker supports for firemen who work on a part-time basis. Under current rules, job seekers who work as part-time fighters are entitled to job-seekers benefit while on a small retainer for on-call work. This requires them to be within a short distance from the fire station, creating difficulties in them meeting the statutory requirements for jobseekers benefit. Read More | Share
