Native of Maudabawn, Cootehill, Co. Cavan. Joined An Garda Siochana in 1961 and was stationed in Robertstown, Co. Kildare, Tullow, Co. Carlow and a temporary position in Athy. Married Maureen Roche of Allenwood while stationed at Robertstown, they have one son Daragh. Retired from An Garda Siochana in 1972 to take up the position of Manager of Tourism Projects at Robertstown. Worked as a Sales Representative and Insurance Agent from the mid 70s to 1989. Self employed as Auctioneer and Assurance/Insurance Agent to 1992. Interests include community development, sport especially Horse Racing.
