Notes

Re-elected to Seanad Éireann July 2007 on the Industrial & Commercial Panel. for Trade and Commerce) Spokesperson for Older People and Children.

'The Senate was deliberately intended in the Constitution to enable people like myself to bring a different voice and outlook, anchored in our experience of industry and commerce, to the work of the legislature. I have a passionate commitment to advancing the Peace Process in the North and in supporting the nationalist community. I have led many groups of women to areas such as Drumcree, West Belfast and South Armagh. As Chairwoman of the President's Award - Gaisce, I was directly involved in making available to the young people of Northern Ireland the right to receive the President's Award in 2001. I have served an apprenticeship of almost 20 years as an active contributor to politics in Ireland. I have been a member of Fianna Fáil since 1983 and was twice elected to the National Executive of the Party by the active female voice of the Dublin Euro Constituency from 1993 to 1998. I know that I can bring that fresh voice and approach to the Seanad envisaged by the framework of the Constitution.'
