Personal Details

The eldest in a family of five children, he was educated at the CBS Secondary and Loreto & CBS Primary Schools in Gorey. He holds an honours degree in law from UCD. Malcolm is Head of Communications with the Higher Education Authority, the body responsible for allocating third level funding and advising on higher education policy. He has previously worked as an independent research consultant and as director of Screen Producers Ireland, the representative body for independent film and television producers in Ireland. Before that, he served as Chief Executive of the Community Games, commercial manager with myhome.ie and as press and research officer with the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland. He is deeply committed to the greater involvement of young people in politics. On local issues, he strongly opposed the rezoning of the show grounds in Gorey and is working for the improvement of facilities for young people in the North Wexford area. He actively campaigned for the successful introduction of commuter bus and rail services to the town. He took a leading role in successfully opposing the planned closure of the Teagasc Office in Gorey in 2005. A trustee and former chairperson of the Gorey Little Theatre Group, Chair of the Gorey Musical Society, a director of Gorey Youth Needs Group and Gorey School of Art, Malcolm has been involved with a wide range of community and voluntary organisations. Malcolm is a former Vice-President of the National Youth Council of Ireland, a former Education Officer with both the Union of Students in Ireland and the UCD Students Union and a former member of the National Council for Educational Awards. He has served three terms as Cathaoirleach/Mayor - 2001/2002, 2002/2003 and 2004/2005.
