Personal Details
John Shaw is a 27 year old first time candidate from Ratharney. He attended school in St Marys National School Raharney and St Josephs, Rochfortbridge before completing a degree in Property Economics in the DIT.
Political Record
John’s main priority is to strengthen community spirit and promote community involvement as he believes that this will increase social inclusion and protect and promote local employment.As a keen well known sportsman who captained Westmeath to win the inaugural Christy Ring Cup in 2005, John has seen the positive effects of sport on young children, helping to divert them away from anti-social behaviour and underage drinking and into a positive environment. John wants to see investment in local sporting organisations as it is vital for strong and safe communities.
John wants to give local children the best start and to this end will work hard to secure funding for schools in Clonmellon and Rathwire. Providing schools with the best possible facilities and buildings enhances the learning environment for teachers and pupils alike and can become a central facility for local communities.
As a young person working locally John wants to secure high quality and fast broadband for the Coole area. John knows that rural broadband increases the opportunities for local businesses and local employment. A strong rural broadband network helps to keep people and families local, strengthening communities.
