John Curran

On May 13th 2008 John Curran was appointed as Minister of State with special responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs at the Department of Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs.

On the 24th of May 2007 John Curran was re-elected to Dáil Éireann. Once again John topped the poll in the growing Dublin Mid-West constituency when he received 8650 first preference votes. This represented over 23% of all votes cast. John was the first TD to be elected a seat in the 29th Dáil.

Once more John ran what was regarded as a very professional and ultimately successful election campaign. His campaign team was well organised, hard working and full of energy and he won his seat by drawing support from all sections of the community.

In the 29th Dáil Deputy John Curran was appointed by the Taoiseach to be a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the Education and Science Committee. Bertie Ahern also nominated him to join the National Economic and Social Forum (NESF) in 2004 and the Oireachtas Committee on Child Protection in 2006.

John was first elected as a public representative in the Local Elections in June 1999. He represented Clondalkin/Newcastle in South Dublin County Council and was an active member of the Fianna Fáil group of Councillors. John believes strongly in communicating with his constituents. As well as this John runs a busy constituency office and holds weekly clinics throughout Dublin Mid-West.
