Born Bantry July 1955. Youngest in a family of 11 children.
Graduated from University College Cork in Law (Hons) in 1975.
Current Member of the Joint Oireachtas Committees on Communications, Marine & Natural Resources and Justice, Equality, Defence & Women's Rights.
Senator Denis O'Donovan is a full time Politician.. He was born on the peninsula of Muintir Bháire in 1955. He was elected to Dáil Éireann in 2002 until 2007 when he lost his seat but was elected to Seanad Éireann.
He was a member of Cork County Council for many years. He is a strong voice for West Cork on many issues and was voted Backbencher of the Year in 2004 by the Media.
In 2002 he was Chairperson of the All-Party Committee on The Constitution which published two very significant reports, one on "Property" and the second on "The Family".
Elected to Seanad Eireann on the Industrial & Commercial Panel, July 2007. Spokesperson on Justice, Equality & Law Reform. Member of All-Party Committee on Constitution and Deputy Leader of Fianna Fail Group in the Seanad.
