Personal Details

David Grant was born in Little Bray and later moved to the growing area of Ballywaltrim. He was educated at St Philomena’s National School (Ravenswell), St Fergal’s National Schools and St Kilian’s Community School. He holds a Diploma in Politics and Government, a Degree in Public Management (Local Government) and a Masters in European Integration and Regionalism. David has worked as Special Advisor to local Minister, Dick Roche TD, at the Departments of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and at Foreign Affairs with responsibility for European Affairs.

Grant defies order to stay quiet on Dargle Flood Protection Scheme - Grant

Political Record

David Grant is Cathaoirleach of Bray Town Council. He was first elected to Bray Town Council in June 1994, the youngest Councillor to be elected to local government in Ireland at that time. He held the position of Chairman of Bray Town Council in 1999/2000 and has served as a member of a number of committees, including; County Wicklow VEC, Wicklow County Council’s Strategic Policy Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, Bray Partnership, Bray Drugs Task Force, Young Peoples Facilities and Services Fund, RAPID County Monitoring Committee, Bray Institute of Further Education, Europe Day Bray Committee, Barrington Commemoration Committee and the Bègles and Würzburg Town Twinning Committees.

He was appointed a Peace Commissioner in November 2005 by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

As a public representative David Grant has always put the interests of those he represents to the fore.

He successfully delivers on behalf of local people on issues that are important to them and has kept in touch with his constituents with regular newsletters and his new interactive website.

David has always been active in Bray and County Wicklow, in many areas of civic life; a former Chairman of Fergal Ógs Gaelic Games Club, he has also managed GAA juvenile inter-county teams and held the position of Fixtures Secretary of the County Ladies Football Board. He is also a Vice President of the Wicklow Schoolboy’s Football League.

David has been keenly involved with the Arts community across Wicklow. He has participated in many stage performances in Bray, Enniskerry, Roundwood and Wicklow Town.

As Chairman of Ballywaltrim Community Centre, he steered the redevelopment of St Fergal’s Parish Hall at a cost of over €2,000,000; During his tenure as Chairman of Ballywaltrim Recreational Park, a €1,300,000 project, he successfully reached his target to provide playing pitches, floodlights, modern changing and training facilities; as a leading member of the Young People Facilities and Services Fund Committee he has played an active role in new youth centres in Fassaroe and Bray Town Centre. Most recently he took great satisfaction from his period as Chairman of Bray Town Council Swimming Pool Steering Committee when he recently saw the opening of a new €13,000,000 pool, gym and astro turf pitches.
