Political Record

Chris Andrews TD has been active in the Dublin South East constituency for almost 12 years. Elected to Dublin City Council representing Pembrooke Ward in 1999 on first attempt. Selected to run for the Party in the 2002 General Elections, picking up over 3,500 first preference votes. Maintained and increased his first preference votes in 2004 council elections but narrowly missed out on election. February 2006, selected to run for Dáil Éireann by Dublin South East Comhairle convention. Oct 2006, co-opted to Dublin City Council to represent Dublin South inner city ward. In May 2007, Chris was elected for Dublin South East.

Chris is convenor of the Dail Finance Committee, and is a member of the Trade, Enterprise and Employment Committee and the European Scrutiny Committee. Chris has also been very active in the area of Human rights and development aid. He was a VSO volunteer in The Gambia during 2008.

Personal Details

Born Dublin 1965, Son of the late Niall Andrews TD and MEP for Dublin, and nephew of former Minister for Foreign Affairs, David Andrews. Married with two children. Chris is passionate about politics and feels that there in no greater honour than to serve people in a democracy. He believes, "We need fair responsible policies that will bring about a greater balance in our society and ensure that everyone has an equal right, and opportunity, to participate in education, training, work and leisure and where services are accessible and focused on the real needs of people."
