Local Fianna Fáil TD, Charlie O’Connor, joined the Dublin Bus Community forum for an emergency meeting this morning, (Friday, 5 Feb), to discuss the retention of bus services to Tallaght following the withdrawal of services due to anti-social behaviour.
Deputy O’Connor recently called for the immediate restoration of bus services to Tallaght after buses were withdrawn last weekend following anti-social behaviour of a few local young people.
Speaking after the meeting, Deputy O’Connor said, “I am pleased that the Gardai, the Dublin Bus management, unions and Council gave definite commitments to recommence the bus service. It has now been agreed that the curtailment of the bus service will be suspended and a full service will be resumed immediately.”
“I was shocked when the bus services to Tallaght were withdrawn following stoning by local youths. It is important to note that it is the irresponsible behaviour of just a few people that has now caused huge inconvenience for the whole community here in Tallaght.”
“Dublin Bus withdrew services without warning from the area - in particular the area of Jobstown - and this move left residents feeling completely isolated. I have worked hard with the Dublin Bus Community Forum, which comprises of Dublin Bus, unions, the Gardai, other public representatives and members of the community, to ensure continuity of service for Tallaght.”
“I raised this issue in the Dáil last night and I raised the matter with the South Dublin joint policing board, of which I am a member.”
“All credit must go to the Gardai, Dublin Bus management, the unions, the council and the community for their ongoing work on this matter”
“I would appeal to the local community to help those who are working in partnership with the Dublin Bus community forum and to assist Gardai with their investigations. These select few people are giving Tallaght a bad name and they need to be stopped now.”
“The people of Tallaght deserve a reliable bus service and should not be made to suffer due to the reckless behaviour of a few youths. I am delighted that services will resume as normal,” added Deputy O Connor.
