The University of Limerick is to play host to one of the key events of Science Week Ireland 2009 next Sunday, according to local TD and Minister for State, Peter Power. Science Week will open this Sunday 8th November when the Discovery Sunday Family Day will take place in UL with interactive activities for all the family.
Science Week Ireland will run from 8th to 15th November and will involve events throughout the country. The aim of Science Week is to promote the relevance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in our everyday lives and to demonstrate their importance to the future development of Irish society and our economy.
“This really is a fantastic day out for families and I would encourage Limerick families to make the most of this opportunity and join the Science Week fun in UL this Sunday,” said Minister Power. “The programme demonstrates in a fun way the important role that science and technology play in our day to day lives and I think it really helps to make children aware of the importance of science.”
“This is the 12th year that Science Week Ireland has been in operation and it is fantastic that Limerick should play host to one of the key events. UL is a fitting venue to host the opening event of Science Week, as it will give the university and Limerick the chance to showcase all the innovation and excellent scientific work that takes place in the county.”
“I hope that families from throughout Limerick and beyond will visit UL on Sunday and will make the most of this special, fun day. Hopefully this experience will help to create the next generation of Limerick scientists and technological innovators who will help form the future of Limerick and Ireland’s economy in the years to come,” Minister Power concluded.
