Galway East Fianna Fáil TD Noel Treacy has welcomed the allocation of significant funding for flooding mitigation measures in County Galway.
Some €992,020 in funding was confirmed for minor flood relief works in County Galway by his colleague, the Minister with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Dr Martin Mansergh TD.
Deputy Treacy welcomed the funding and said that he is continuing to work with Minister Mansergh in identifying areas in need of further attention and investment.
“I am happy that this significant funding is being made available for flood alleviation measures in County Galway. Many areas around the county that were affected by the recent flooding are receiving funding for studies, river cleaning, for flood defences, and other mitigation measures.”
“This is the third round of funding that has been announced for flooding measures since October 2009. This round of funding brings the total allocated nationally in the last seven months to €11.9 million and is a 500 per cent increase on funding allocated for the previous year. This shows the level of commitment from the Government to addressing flood risk across the country.”
“I will continue to work with Dr Mansergh to ensure that all areas requiring flood works in County Galway receive the funding and focus that they deserve,” concluded Noel Treacy TD.
