Galway East Fianna Fáil TD Noel Treacy has confirmed that approximately €50,000 has been allocated by the Office of Public Works for the provision of flood mitigation measures at Gortbeg, Cahergal, Tuam.
Works began this week and will take approximately six weeks to complete, he added.
“Dr Martin Mansergh TD, Minister of State in the Office of Public Works, has informed me that flood mitigation measures have started at Gortbeg, Cahergal, Tuam,”
“Channel excavation will be carried out and this will help to mitigate the risk of flooding in houses, public roads and farm buildings.”
“All the local people have been informed and I know that they will welcome this move to help prevent future flooding. The area was badly affected by the flooding last year and it was a very difficult time for everyone living in the area.”
“I am delighted that we could secure an allocation of funds for these important works in the greater Cahergal area,” concluded Noel Treacy TD.
