Tamboran’s Moorman Dismissive and Disrespectful – Mac Sharry

Senator Marc Mac Sharry has backed Sligo and Donegal County Councils in a decision to ban hydraulic fracturing in the North West.

Following a radio interview with Chief Executive, Richard Moorman of Tamboran Resources on Ocean FM, Mac Sharry states the people in the North West are entitled to protect their environment and for the local Authorities to take appropriate measures in this regard on the people’s behalf.  

Mac Sharry said, “Moorman’s tone in the interview was dismissive and disrespectful of the people of Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal”. It is not a question of being anti-development, of course we all want the best for our localities and naturally we would like to realise all the benefits of the bounty of the earth and its natural resources but as residents of this region we and our local authorities are entitled to take steps to ensure the quality of our water table and the protection of our environment.  

“It is not just the North West of Ireland that have concerns, France has an outright ban on hydraulic fracturing and there are a number of states in America that do not approve of this process. In the circumstances it would be ridiculous in the extreme to allow such a process to take place” states Mac Sharry.

Tamboran Resources must realise that the communities of the North West are voicing their concerns and need to be listened to.   If there are natural resources that this region can derive a benefit from naturally then we would like to realise those benefits, but not if it threatens to irreparably damage the environment.  For this reason I commend the action of those councils who have acted to protect our environment.
