Niall Collins Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick West has today welcomed the news that the car scrappage scheme has led to a major boost in motor sales.
Deputy Collins was responding to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) which show that number of car sales this year has already surpassed the total for the whole of 2009.
Deputy Collins said: This is great news for an industry that only last year was on its knees. The motor scrappage scheme has given a much needed kick-start to the demand for new cars. This jump in sales now means that experts have to revise their targets upwards.
Deputy Collins concluded Todays news is very encouraging, coming as it does after recent positive developments in the retail, export and manufacturing sectors. While this shows that the economy in general is improving, we nonetheless must ensure that we keep the pressure on to ensure that real people see the benefits in their everyday lives.
