School Librarians Jobs Confirmed for 2011 - Carey

Local Minister Pat Carey TD has confirmed that four local schools will be in a position to continue to employ librarians in their Junior Cert libraries next year.

There had been doubt over the extension of the librarians’ contracts in the schools for the next school year but it has now been confirmed the positions are to remain.

The Minister said: “I opened the new Junior Cert library in one of the schools, Patrician College, in February 2010 and it is an excellent resource in the school. Following representations, I’ve now confirmed with my colleague Tánaiste Mary Coughlan that the contracts will be renewed.”

“The local schools are: Coláiste Eoin, Finglas; Patrician College, Finglas; Trinity Comprehensive, Ballymun and Plunkett College, Whitehall. These schools have already shown that the Junior Cert library programme is working well and in some cases pupils are arriving in as early as 7.30am to use the facilities!”

“It is critical that services like this are utilised to the maximum possible extent to help pupils in advance of the Junior Cert. This has a positive effect on the pupils themselves, their school environment and their families," concluded the Minister.
