Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Margaret Conlon has expressed her regret following the confirmation that the Lough Egish Milk Dying Plant is to cease operations in the first week of April.
She is in discussions with the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan TD, about sourcing a replacement industry for the site.
The Lough Egish-based TD is also working closely with management at the company.
“While we knew that these job losses were imminent, the confirmation today that the plant is to close in April is still very regrettable.”
“I have been working with the management of the company since the plant’s problems were first mooted and I know that the decision to close the Lough Egish facility was not taken lightly.”
“I want to express my solidarity with the people who are facing redundancy.”
“I have been in contact with the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan TD, regarding the need for a replacement industry for Lough Egish for some time now and discussions are ongoing.”
“The milk drying plant has been a feature of life in the local area for as long as I can remember and it is very disappointing that it is set to close in April. It is a fine facility and I am hopeful that we will be able to attract an investor.”
“The Tánaiste has assured me that every available assistance will be made available to seek a replacement industry and to support the workers who will be without a job as a result of this move,” concluded Margaret Conlon TD.
