Protecting and creating jobs in North County Dublin a primary focus for Fianna Fáil

Speaking following the launch of the Fianna Fáil Local Elections Manifesto this week, Cllr Darragh Butler, Local Elections Candidate for Swords electoral area said that protecting and maintaining existing jobs while creating new jobs is essential to Fianna Fáil's strategy to get North County Dublin and Ireland through the global recession.

"The people of North County Dublin are witnessing the worst global downturn since the 1930s and its effects have seen many people lose their jobs. Along with my Party colleagues, we are determined to use every means at our disposal to keep those in employment at work. In addition, we are also vigorously pursuing pro-enterprise policies to bring about new jobs to get those out of work back into employment as quickly as possible. A primary focus of the manifesto is to ensure Fingal County Council plays its essential part in the retention and creation of jobs in our communities."

"It has become clear that the opposition parties are offering only empty criticisms, not concrete plans. Fianna Fáil has a strong policy programme at local level to generate jobs. In Fingal County Council, we are committed to stimulating economic activity. We will achieve this by freezing business rates and by cutting development levies by 50%."

"These measures will help boost jobs and will be supplemented by our commitment to proceed with the establishment of a Business Support Unit to act as a point of contact in the Council," said Cllr Butler.
