Press Release: Dumping

A motion I had to the full council meeting today the 30th March 2009 was that KCC writes to the Minister requesting that any person prosecuted for dumping from a vehicle will receive four penalty points on there driving licence.

Over the last number of years rampant dumping has become a serious issue in the rural areas of Kildare.

I have been working very closely with all organisations to try and elevate this problem and clean up the mess afterwards.

In recession times it seems to be a problem but with this motion been carried through it wouldn't be a financial burden on any agency other than to implement the penalty points.

It is dishonour and robbing our community to dump like this.

We in South Kildare have set up the Gordon Bennett route, which is a tourist attraction, and a large number of vehicles come across east to drive this route.

Two years ago a visiting organisation from England were extremely disappointed with the littering in our county which would stop from people touring our county and spending money in it.

This was brought home to me recently when on a rural back road a lady went out with her children and picked 18 black refuse sacks of rubbish on this particular road.

This is an extremely disappointing situation and I would call on KCC and on all agencies to put the full resources into policing this and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
