About Declan Breathnach

Declan Breathnach has represented Dundalk South on Louth County Council for 20 years, acting as chairperson of the County Council in 08/09.

He was chairperson of Louth County Development Board from 2004 to 2008, Chairperson of Louth Heritage Forum (2005-2008), Secretary of Stephenstown Pond Trust Ltd, Member of Economic Development and Future Planning SPC, Member of Knockbridge Tidy Towns Committee, member of Louth County Enterprise Board, Member of Special Policing Committee, Member of Mid Louth FÁS Community Employment Scheme, Member of Louth Vocational Education Committee, Member of Board of Management - St Oliver's Community College and Youthreach Drogheda, Actively involved in a Farming Enterprise, Member of Irish Farmers Association, Member or East Border Regio Committee, Member of Irish National Teachers Organisation and Member of Louth Archaeological Society.

Cllr Declan Breathnach, 52, has been serving the people of Louth since his election to the County Council in 1991. Originally from Knockbridge and the father of two teenage children, Declan has been a Primary School Teacher for 32 years, firstly in Dunleer and since 1989 he has been the Principal of Walshestown National School.

Declan served as the Chairperson of Louth County Development Board from 2004-2008 and of Louth Heritage Forum from 2005-2008. At Council level Declan is a member of Economic Development and Future Planning committee as well as Special Policing Committee. Declan is actively involved in farming enterprise and is a member of Irish Farmers Association.

Declan has been instrumental in the work of Stephenstown Pond and currently serves as its Secretary as well as holding positions on the County’s Enterprise Board, FAS Community Work Scheme and Louth VEC.
