Pfizer workers will be supported by Government – Ó Feargháil

Pfizer workers who are to lose their jobs over the next 18 months will receive every support possible from the Government according to Kildare South Fianna Fail TD Sean Ó Feargháil.

“We had very sad news today 275 Pfizer workers will lose their jobs over the next 18 months as part of the global reorganisation of Pfizer’s operations.”

“Pfizer is a major employer in not only in Newbridge but in other plants around the country. The site has been an integral part of Newbridge, under the previous management of Wyeth and now as Pfizer.”

“I am pleased to note that the site will remain open with a new role on Specialised Technology and the potential to transfer in the production of five new products.”

“The site is to stop manufacturing oral contraceptives and this is why the jobs will be impacted.”

“It is encouraging to hear that 770 jobs will not be impacted by these changes. The 275 jobs that will go will be phased out over an 18 month period beginning at the end of this year.”

“I have spoken to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe regarding the Pfizer workers and he has assured me that the workers who face redundancy will be provided every support possible by state agencies,” concluded Deputy Ó Feargháil.
