Over €11 million grant for Kilkenny regional and local roads - McGuinness

Kilkenny will receive a grant of €11.1 million for improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads according to Fianna Fail TD M John McGuinness.

“Kilkenny County Council will receive €10.4 million for the maintenance of local roads including specific improvement grants that includes funding for the Ferrymountgarret Bridge, the Thomastown Relief Road and the Graiguenamanagh Relief Road. Funding will also go towards sign posting of regional roads and local improvement schemes.”

“In addition to this Kilkenny County Council will get €180,000 for local cost safety and improvement works.”

“Kilkenny Borough Council will also receive €430,000 of a block grant which is a 9% increase on last year.”

“I am pleased that this funding has been awarded to Kilkenny. Despite reduction in public expenditure it is essential that local and regional roads are maintained in order to increase public safety.”

“It is vital that Kilkenny County and Borough Council’s make the best use possible of this funding that is allocated to supplement to their expenditure. Given the damage to roads following the recent bad weather it is important that Kilkenny County and Borough Council carefully assess their planned road programmes for this coming year,” concluded Deputy McGuinness.
